Unfortunately with the warmer weather the black birds are back earlier this year.  This week is starting out really wet (and probably ending that way too).  It seems like when the rain moves in the blackbirds live at my feeder scaring away my cute little finches and cardinals.  I am always amazed by the colors in the blackbirds close up…I I think the colors show up even better when they are wet!

Whoa! I didn’t know they had colors on them! Love the droplets too. 🙂

Our Crows are totally Black and most people hate them. I love them for their intelligence, they Caw to let other crows know that there is food on offer, Magpies do it to keep others away. Ours have been in short numbers in recent days, which I put down to the normally dry Central Australia Now being flooded, a time of rare plenty.

The blackbirds are quite intelligent as well…what I hate about them is they are also quite aggressive and scare away my pretty birds! They are also very vocal and LOUD!

I am rare as I do love the Blackbird and I know he is a menace to the smaller ones, I’ve learned all of this from my friend Marion and Ken who have one of the largest Nutcracker populations in Kamloops,B.C. who they feed year round..thus have the BB’s who keen in on the food source. Ken has some amazing photos like this one of the colourful blackbird, very nice shot.

    Hi Tammy,
Awesome close up! They can be a pest though. Have a great day!

Amazing close up. They are wicked looking with their sharp beaks.

You are so right about the colors being more prominent! An all around good shot with the composition and water drops. Thought it was just ducks that water rolled off their backs, lol 🙂

Great close-up. And I like blackbirds too. They seem to co-exist well with the other smaller birds around our feeders. We have lots of bluetits and nobody messes them about.

    A great close-up!

Blackbirds just want to have fun too 😉 I suppose you have tried putting feeders for the little ones in bushy shrubs where it’s harder for the bigger birds to go?
Nice portrait, with the little droplets running down his back

This one is a grackle isn’t it? Your shot beautifully shows the lines of the bird and the beautiful colors … it looks like a gradient from blue to black. It’s also cool to see the little tiny water droplets beading up on the feathers.

Oh, that eye–intelligence there, a kind of knowing. Can’t you see this on the cover of a fantasy novel?
