Turbulent March 30, 2012

Last night we had some turbulent thunderstorms move through…lots of wind and hail.  Our area was spared the hail, but the winds we did have.  Our Crabapple Tree just began to bloom in the past few days and the wind took tons of it’s blooms (thank goodness it still has some left)!  It looks like it rained flower petals!  🙂

Those storms are coming here today. 😦 Glad your tree still has some blooms left…it’s gorgeous!

I am happy there are more blooms on the tree than on the ground…you will still have by the looks of it lots of crabapples, pretty tree, pretty photo

Better petals than pellets…we heard thunder about 4 AM – probably sent our way from you.

You would think the wind would have the common decency to blow them into your neighbour’s yard.

beautiful pale petalstorm 🙂 When the Jacarandas loose their petals here we have purple in the streets for weeks – I love it

That tree sure has an abundance of flowers….sorry that the storm hastened the fall of the petals.

Reminds me of a poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins:

LOOK at the stars! look, look up at the skies!
O look at all the fire-folk sitting in the air!
The bright boroughs, the circle-citadels there!
Down in dim woods the diamond delves! the elves’-eyes!
The grey lawns cold where gold, where quickgold lies! 5
Wind-beat whitebeam! airy abeles set on a flare!
Flake-doves sent floating forth at a farmyard scare!—
Ah well! it is all a purchase, all is a prize.
Buy then! bid then!—What?—Prayer, patience, aims, vows.
Look, look: a May-mess, like on orchard boughs! 10
Look! March-bloom, like on mealed-with-yellow sallows!
These are indeed the barn; withindoors house
The shocks. This piece-bright paling shuts the spouse
Christ home, Christ and his mother and all his hallows.

Looks like a blanket of petals under the tree.

the weather is really changeable right now, last week we were in the 20s C and this week we may have snow 😦
Hope your tree is able to hold on to some of the blossom, it’s really pretty.

  13. Kathryn Says:

Same here with our dogwood trees and our cherry blossoms. When the wind comes with full force it kind of looks like it’s snowing.

Great photo…love the crop. We were in Ames on this date and there was a front that came thru there so quickly but not any huge winds or damage.
