Wabasha, MN has a whooping population of 2,500 people and is the oldest city in the state of Minnesota.  It also boasts that it is the home of the movie “Grumpy Old Men”.   We visited Wasbasha during it’s off season and it was very empty.

I can see the grumpy old men sitting on the city hall steps . . . but then I was raised in small town Minnesota and there were always grumpy old men on or by the city hall steps solving all the problems of the world.

We have country towns like that and in some you can spend a whole fortnight in one night, in others the People make the difference Finest Kind as Hawkeye used to say.

We have traveled by road all across the country, so we have rolled through many a town like this one. While there are usually some regional characteristics (like the iconic white Congregation churches in New England) there are other elements that are practically standard–including the classic brick architecture of the downtown area.
